The Datum Group’s data centre portfolio consists of two built and operational data centres (FRN1 in Farnborough and MCR1 in Manchester) with two further facilities in the pipeline (FRN2 and MCR2).  Datum is backed by UBS Asset Management and, in 2022, Datum acquired Manchester data centre provider, Teledata.

Our Approach

The team at Noveus Energy advise Datum on sourcing their renewable power.  Noveus Energy’s consultants have worked with Datum since FRN1 was a “new connection” project in 2012.  Noveus Energy ran competitive tenders and encouraged a long list of suppliers to quote and rebid.

Datum’s priorities were: sustainability of their energy supplier, lowest cost and flexibility to grow as their client base grows.

The Results

  • Noveus Energy worked with Datum’s management team to agree growth forecasts that could be shared with energy suppliers
  • Noveus Energy’s competitive tenders attracting quotes from nine different suppliers
  • As part of the tender, Noveus Energy helped suppliers understand Datum’s business and their plans integrate their Datum and Teledata data centre businesses together
  • Noveus Energy were able to meet with suppliers and navigate the suppliers’ credit checks successfully
  • Noveus Energy reviewed offers and made recommendations based on price and suppliers’ sustainability
  • Noveus Energy documented the winning supply contracts and assisted Datum’s legal review
  • Datum and Noveus were keen to expediate negotiations to take advantage of favourable wholesale prices and the winning offers gave Datum significant price savings compared with staying with their incumbent suppliers
